Report Filters & Dimensions

Every statement in the Financial Center is driven by one filter panel — learn it once, use it for all four reports. Here's every control and the reporting patterns they unlock.

Getting there. Open the App Launcher (the grid icon at the top-left of any page) → REDA Financials AI → the Financial Center tab; the filter panel sits beside the report on every statement.
Access you'll need. Any REDA Financials permission set can open the Financial Center tab and use these filters to run a report; what you see is limited to the records your role can read.

The panel at a glance

The filter panel is collapsible (the Filters toggle on the action bar hides it once you've configured a run) and organizes into four sections — Report Parameters, Date Ranges, Entities and Dimensions — beneath the action bar that carries Run Report and, once a report has data, Export PDF, Export CSV and Export Excel. Run Report stays disabled until at least one entity and one date range are set.

Report Parameters

ControlWhat it does
Report TypeTrial Balance, Income Statement, Balance Sheet, or Cash Flow Statement. Switching clears the previous result.
Reporting FrameworkYour custom statement layout (frameworks). Left at "-- No Framework (Taxonomy) --", statements group by account type/subtype — the sensible default.
Currency (multi-currency orgs)Entity Functional (each entity in its own money) or Corporate Currency (everything translated for group views). Mixing entities of different currencies flips the report to corporate automatically — the toast tells you.
Hide Zero BalancesPrunes silent accounts and then-empty groups — the compact executive view.
The framework is never pre-selected. Every session starts at "-- No Framework (Taxonomy) --", even if your organization has a favorite framework — the statements don't apply one for you. If a run's headings look "wrong", check this picker before anything else: taxonomy layout is simply the default.

Date Ranges: one report, many periods

Each date-range row becomes a column set — add rows (Add Date Range) for comparisons, and use the Label field ("Q1", "Q2") to name the columns (the field's own hint says it: "Used as column header"). Two behaviors worth knowing: with exactly two ranges, Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow grow a Variance column automatically (period 2 minus period 1); and the Balance Sheet, being a snapshot, swaps the range for a single As of Date.

  • A row without a To date is not submitted. If a comparison column you expected never appears, check for a half-filled range row — and if you run with only incomplete rows, the server refuses plainly: "Date To is required for date range row 1."
  • The trial balance never gets a Variance column, however many ranges you add — it's a verification tool, not an analysis one.
  • Labels are worth the three keystrokes. "Q1" and "Q2" as column headers make every screen read-out and every export self-explanatory.

Entities: one company or the group

Each entity row (Add Entity) adds that company's columns. The Entity box lists your active entities with their currency — "Meridian Properties US LLC (USD)" — and picking one preselects its Ledger (the entity default; change it to report another of the entity's ledgers). Patterns:

  • Single entity — the everyday statutory run.
  • Several entities, same currency — side-by-side columns plus a Total.
  • Several entities, mixed currencies — automatic corporate-currency mode: Meridian's US + UK + India in one comparable view.

The Total column follows one rule: it appears per period only when you've selected more than one entity and the amounts are addable — either you're in corporate currency, or every selected entity shares one currency. The report never adds dollars to pounds.

Dimensions: slice the whole statement

The Dimensions section shows the analysis fields your organization tracks on postings — Cost Center out of the box, plus anything your administrator has added. Set one and every number in the statement recomputes for that slice: an income statement for Property Operations only, a trial balance for one territory. The same filters carry into drill-downs and exports — what you see is always one consistent scope.

Meridian's monthly pack, as filter recipes: P&L month vs prior month (two labeled ranges, variance column) · Balance sheet as of month-end · Cash flow for the month · Group P&L (all four entities, corporate currency) · Property Operations P&L (dimension filter). Five runs, five exports, one coffee.

Currency: what the report is counted in

In a multi-currency org the panel offers a Currency choice — Entity Functional or Corporate Currency. Entity-functional runs read each entity's books in its own money; corporate runs read everything in the group currency, translated as posted. Two things happen automatically: selecting entities with different currencies switches the run to corporate mode and locks it (with the toast "Multiple currencies detected — showing in corporate currency"), and every rendered report carries a badge naming its money — "All amounts in USD". Single-currency orgs never see the choice; there's nothing to choose.

Messages you may meet

The messageWhat it means / what to do
"At least one entity is required to generate a report."Add an entity row — this also keeps Run Report disabled until done.
"At least one date range is required to generate a report."Add a date range with its To date filled in.
"Date To is required for date range row 1."A range row is missing its To date; complete or remove the row.
"Multiple currencies detected — showing in corporate currency"Not an error — the report translated itself so your mixed-currency entities stay comparable.
"No data found for the selected parameters"The scope is empty: dates before the books began, the wrong entity or ledger, or a dimension value with no postings.

Common mistakes to avoid

MistakeWhy it hurtsDo this instead
Assuming your default framework applies automaticallyThe panel starts every session at "-- No Framework (Taxonomy) --" — a statutory pack run "as always" comes out in taxonomy layoutPick the framework explicitly each time it matters; glance at the headings before exporting
Adding a comparison range but leaving its To date emptyThe row silently isn't submitted — the report runs, just without your comparisonEvery range needs its To date; the Variance column needs exactly two complete ranges
Expecting Variance across three or more periodsVariance is a two-period feature — with more ranges it simply doesn't appearFor multi-period trend math, export to Excel and compute there
Leaving a dimension filter on from the previous questionThe next report quietly answers for one cost center while you read it as the whole companyCheck the Dimensions section before each run — filters persist until you clear them
Comparing a functional-currency run against a corporate-currency oneSame books, different money — the "discrepancy" is translationRead the "All amounts in …" badge first on both runs
Configured it just right? The exports capture the full filter state — entities, ledgers, ranges, labels, framework, dimensions, currency mode — so the numbers you share are exactly the numbers you configured. The CSV even writes the parameters into its header rows as a record of scope.

Where to go next

  1. Drill-Down from Any Amount — the numbers behind the numbers.
  2. PDF & Excel Export — sharing what you configured.
  3. Reporting Frameworks — owning the statement layout.

Frequently asked questions

It needs at least one entity and one date range (with its To date). Fill those and it lights up.

Yes — add as many ranges as you like; each becomes columns. The automatic Variance column is the only two-period exclusive (with three+ periods, export to Excel and compute variances there).

Every amount is read in your corporate currency (translated when posted), so different-currency entities become addable. The badge on the report always names the currency you're looking at.

From the posting-analysis fields your administrator has configured for the ledger — Cost Center is the common starter, and any analysis field the admin adds to postings appears here as a filter automatically. If a dimension you track is missing from the panel, that's an admin configuration item, not a reporting limitation.

Yes — the drill shows only transactions inside your full filter state (entity, ledger, period, dimensions, currency mode), and every export captures the same scope. One configuration, one consistent story everywhere.

Yes — it prunes lines that are zero in every column, and then any groups left with nothing in them. Untick it when the point is to prove an account is empty.
